If no essences define me, and if, then, as an existentialist, I reject all of the philosophies, sciences, political theories, and religions which fail to reflect my existence as conscious being and attempt to impose a specific essentialist structure upon me and my world, then there is nothing that structures my world. A well-known statement of philosopher Immanuel Kant is "Nothing great was ever accomplished without reason". Constructivist teaching practices: Perceptions of teachers and students.

Altra figura importante è Karl Jaspers, che partendo da basi psicologistiche nelle prime opere approda a una speculazione specificamente filosofica tra il 1946 e il 1962, su una linea che ripropone alcuni temi che erano già di Kierkegaard. Freud told us how unaware we really were of our own minds. How does the world show itself as phenomenon? Later he dropped the saints from this lineup. It is a limitation in that a large part of one's facticity consists of things one couldn't have chosen (birthplace, etc.), but a condition in the sense that one's values most likely will depend on it.

In the 1940s, when the existentialist fashions began, the men wore raincoats and plaid shirts, and women let their hair grow long and loose in what one journalist termed the “drowning-victim” look. It is, Hegel tells us, only because someone else recognizes me as a subject that I can be constituted as such. A number of existentialist philosophers used literary forms to convey their thought, and existentialism has been as vital and as extensive a movement in literature as in philosophy.

He is enslaved both by the physical laws of nature and by such moral laws as the Mosaic code. Dubuffet thought “Art should go to the roots of mental activity, where thought is close to its birth” 18 This compares directly to the breakdown of mans thought within existentialism. If this is true, the Teacher becomes all important. Maybe there are not and cannot be rules that identify the varieties of existential literature, but there should at least be some useful standard by which any one work, experienced in and itself, could have the term applied to it in some meaningful way.

Unfortunately, the philosophy of relativism is pervasive in our culture today. Hence no objective description of this environment could be of any use to us. The Being-For-Itself also recognizes that its condition does not create an essence, that a Jew is not a Jew because of an essence but because of a condition and that his condition does not determine what his essence is but rather informs him of what his essence can be.
