Needlepoint retailer and needlepoint wholesaler to qualified shops. My main thoughts on this book are really only minor quibbles. Everything is presented clearly and concisely, no fuss, just the information and diagrams you need, and genuinely easy to follow. They made patterns with instructions and fabric as well as partially completed quilts and shipped them all over the US. I didn’t necessarily use them but I did love teaching and learning them.’ Fleming remembers being ‘up till 2am in the morning getting ready for the City and Guilds classes because there was so much preparation for them, you could get away with nothing with adults.’ 67 Fleming says ‘we got fantastic students, they were so enthusiastic and so glad to be there’ - a mixture of people ‘who either had not had a chance to do further education at all or who had been forced to do something else.’ Several of Fleming’s students ‘carried on to do Foundation courses and Degrees and Masters and PhD’s – having come through the adult education route’ and she finds it worrying that ‘that route is no longer there.’ Alison Erridge remembers when C&G began the Creative Studies courses in the 1980s and ‘reorganised itself on a sort of fine art basis, I felt then – who’s going to sew?’ 68 However, the courses were still heavily skills based and taught by tutors trained in that way.
